Summary
Description |
English: SHAHR-I-ZOHAK (RED CITY); FLOURISHING CITY IN 1222 WHEN GENGHIS KHAN CAME THROUGH. HIS GRANDSON WAS KILLED BY A BOWSHOT WHILE BESIEGING THIS FORT SO THE MONGOLS KILLED EVERY HUMAN BEING AND DESTROYED THE IRRIGATION SYSTEM. NO MAN HAS LIVED IN THE VALLEY SINCE. THE CITY STANDS ON A HIGH BLUFF OVERLOOKING THE BAMIYAN VALLEY. IT IS CALLED THE RED CITY BECAUSE OF THE Colour DISPLAYED WHEN THE SUN SETS.
