Upon successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
- explain why the concept of the self is an important interest area for social psychology;
- characterize the major areas of research in social psychology;
- identify cognitive biases in real-life situations, including:
- Fundamental attribution error,
- Actor-observer bias,
- Self-serving bias, and
- Just-world hypothesis;
- identify the causes and effects of the need for group affiliation;
- differentiate between the cognitive behavior of groups and individuals;
- describe the major theories of motivation and emotion; and
- identify the factors inherent in situational versus dispositional influences on behavior.
