Welcome to Saylor001: Introduction to Learning at Saylor Academy. General information about this course and its requirements can be found below.

Course Description: An introduction to getting started as a Saylor Academy learner, including tutorials on creating an account, enrolling in a course, taking an exam, and accessing a course completion certificate. 


Getting Started
This is a typical course syllabus. Read on to familiarize yourself with the information below and the structure of a syllabus. When you are done, navigate to Unit 1 of the course, read the unit introduction, and then expand the section for Subunit 1.1, which will provide all the links and instructions for unit specific course resources.


Now would also be a good time to read the Saylor Student Handbook, which outlines a few important rules and introduces students to the Saylor Academy community.


Technical Requirements

This course is delivered fully online. You will be required to have access to a computer or web-capable mobile device and have consistent access to the internet to either view or download the necessary course resources and to attempt any auto-graded course assessments and the final exam.

To access the full course including assessments and the final exam, you will need a Saylor Academy account. If you are taking this course then it is not expected that you would already have an account, but no worries, Unit 1 will walk you through the steps of obtaining one.


Time Commitment

While learning styles can vary considerably and any particular student will take more or less time to learn or read, we estimate that the "average" student will take 2.5 hours to complete this course. Each unit within the course is similarly tagged with an estimated time advisory. 


Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • describe the process for creating a Saylor Academy account;
  • search the Saylor course catalog;
  • enroll in a course;
  • access your Saylor Academy courses;
  • navigate any Saylor course using the various navigation techniques available;
  • use progress tracking tools to help aide your study;
  • explain the purpose of Saylor's Course Evaluation Surveys;
  • describe the general rules and guidelines for all Saylor Academy assessments and final exams;
  • access a Saylor course completion certificate.

Throughout this course, you'll also see related learning outcomes identified in each unit. You can use the learning outcomes to help organize your learning and gauge your progress.

  • None - This course is specifically designed for those learners who are new to the Saylor Academy site!
