Creating Lists in Word XP

In our often busy lives, we sometimes need help remembering all of the things we have to do each day. Making lists of tasks, purchases, bills, and other important items helps to keep the day organized. Word XP offers an easy-to-use formatting tool that allows you to create such lists.

Word lets you make two types of lists: bulleted and numbered . Bulleted and numbered lists help to simplify steps or items. Teachers often use bulleted lists to highlight important pieces of their lessons. Manuals often include numbered lists to assist readers in step-by-step instruction.

A bullet is usually a black circle, but it can be any other symbol used to highlight items in a list. Use bullets to list items that do not have to be in any particular order.

For example:

Things I need to take on vacation :

  • Travelers' checks
  • Sunscreen
  • Mobile phone
  • Beach towels

Numbers (or letters) are used when information must be in a certain order.

For example:

Pudding recipe :

  1. Pour pudding mix into a large bowl.
  2. Measure 2 cups of milk into a measuring cup.
  3. Pour milk into pudding mix.
  4. Stir until mix is smooth.
  5. Chill in the refrigerator.

You can use the default bullets and numbering settings by clicking on the appropriate button on the Formatting toolbar.
